Spotlight on the Chesed Committee
|
The
role of
the
Chesed
Committee
is
to
encompass various
acts
of
kindness
towards members
of
the
congregation and
the
community.
This
includes
the
following:
-
Supporting
our local
food pantry,
Open Door
-
Bikkur Cholim: visiting the sick and following up on
hospital aftercare
-
Participating
in
Mitzvah Day: a community event sponsored by the JCC
of Western Monmouth County. (This year, our
Synagogue collected new toys for CentraState
Hospital, arranged a
blood pressure screening and collected food from our
local supermarkets.)
-
Supporting Mazon, a national organization which gives grants
to
fight hunger in the USA and around
the world
-
Working with
Habitat for
Humanity, which
seeks
to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness by
building and
refurbishing houses with partner
families
-
Providing a "Sanctuary" program which
extends hospitality for
local
workers during the cold winter months
The Chesed Committee always welcomes new members.
